Don’t Stop Believin’! When will Spotify bring us Glee?

Music, News | 24th February 2010 |

We’ve covered the absence of key current releases from the Spotify catalogue previously, but this week is another bad one for missing in action albums. At the time of writing (and these charts update regularly) Spotify is missing five albums from the iTunes and Amazon.co.uk top tens.

Top of the list is Glee: The Music Vol. 1, which has topped the iTunes chart for weeks now, but is yet to appear on Spotify. The absurdly popular high school musical TV show, now showing in the UK on E4, has spawned a stack of hit singles, none of which are available to Spotifiers. Spotify users searching for Glee will find only karaoke versions (and the 80s alt-punk Glee Club album “Powdered Deer Penis”, which is probably not suitable for young fans of the TV show…). Glee: The Music Vol. 2 is out in a few weeks, but Vol. 1 is still an unknown quantity on Spotify. Glee is released in the UK by the Columbia record label.

Also MIA are Marina and the Diamond’s Family Jewels (making something of a mockery of our Hot on Spotify for 2010 award of last month…), Ocean Eyes by Owl City (the hit single Fireflies has only just appeared, despite bothering the top ten for months), The Brit Awards Album 2010, and Johnny Cash’s American VI: Ain’t No Grave.

To end on a positive note, Florence + The Machine’s Lungs, which was withdrawn from Spotify a few weeks ago, is now back in the fold. Other top ten albums on Spotify are Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster, Falcon by The Courteeners, Paolo Nutini’s Sunny Side Up and The Element Of Freedom by Alicia Keys.

And if you can’t wait for Glee to arrive on Spotify, you can get the downloads and CDs from Amazon using the link below.
