Amy Macdonald live gig video – another Spotify Free exclusive

Music, News | 9th March 2010 |

In another video exclusive, Spotify is this week presenting live video footage from a gig by Scottish singer/songwriter Amy Macdonald. The gig, recorded in Berlin, sees Macdonald perform five tracks from her new album A Curious Thing, which is also released on Spotify this week. The tracks performed include single Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over.

The gig is available to Spotify Free users on the video lightbox that appears in the application’s home page. As it’s essentially an advert, as with the Jimi Hendrix exclusive of a couple of weeks ago, the video lightbox doesn’t appear for Spotify Premium accounts. However, the Amy Macdonald gig is available to view on the official Spotify blog.

The video lightbox also allows Spotify Free users to receive a free download of the track No Roots in return for providing an email address. For Premium users who don’t see the pop-up, you can sign up for the free download here.

Like the Hendrix video, this gig footage is promoted content that is technically only available to Free users and not to paid Premium subscribers. Surely there must be a way of making this type of content available in an unobtrusive manner to Premium users via the Spotify application home page?

Both Free and Premium users can listen to A Curious Thing by clicking the link below.
